Construction Timeline
Begin Construction: July 2004
End Construction: May 2008

On May 2, 2008, the I-95 Mobility 2000 project office completed the fifth of nine (9) projects along the I-95 corridor in Palm Beach County. This project covered nearly (2) miles of I-95 roadway, beginning at 12th Ave. South and ending at 10th Ave. North.

The $59.2 million project, which began in July of 2004, widened I-95 from six (6) lanes to ten (10) lanes along this section. The work included the demolition and reconstruction of all four (4) I-95 ramps and the overpass bridge at 6th Ave. South, the widening of 6th Ave. South under I-95, road improvements to Lake Worth Rd., and the construction of a new parking lot under the Viaduct Bridge for both Tri-Rail and Lake Worth High School. The project also included drainage improvements, sound barrier walls, retaining walls, signing and pavement marking, lighting, landscaping, irrigation, and communication elements.

INTERESTING FACTS

Over 3 million pounds of steel and 17 million pounds of concrete were used to widen the Lake Worth Viaduct bridge.

Over 175 miles of permanent and temporary striping were used—enough to reach from West Palm Beach to Orlando!

There are 138 lights in only a 1.8 mile stretch of roadway.
