PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Project Limits

I-95 from north of Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.
To north of Blue Heron Blvd.

Purpose

Improve roadway capacity, safety and efficiency.

Scope of Work

FDOT is widening I-95 from six lanes to ten lanes along this section, a length of approximately 4.58 miles. The work includes widening the existing bridge over SR 710, replacing the existing bridges over 45th Street and Blue Heron Blvd., and reconstructing the mainline ramps.  The project will also include drainage improvements, sound barrier walls, retaining walls, signing and pavement marking, lighting, landscaping, irrigation and communications elements.

Construction Timeline

Begin Construction: November 2004
End Construction: April 2008

Maintenance of Traffic

Lane closures on I-95 will only occur at night when traffic volumes are lighter. Three thru lanes will be maintained at all times from 5:30 am to 8:00 pm.  No ramp closures will be required on this section of I-95.

Lane closures on 45th Street and Blue Heron Blvd. will only occur at night when traffic volumes are lighter for the demolition of the existing bridges, installation of pilings, and when it is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Construction Phasing

Phase I

I-95 will be milled and resurfaced and outside shoulder slope correction will be completed.  45th Street, SR 710, and Blue Heron Blvd. will have temporary asphalt installed for use in future phases.

Phase II

Traffic will be shifted to the outside of the existing roadway to accommodate the temporary road and permanent bridge construction in the median.

Phase III

Traffic will be shifted towards the newly constructed median area as the road and bridge improvements on I-95 are constructed.  Widening will be done on 45th Street and Blue Heron Blvd.

Phase IV

Traffic will be shifted towards the previously constructed median area as the road and bridge improvements on I-95 are constructed.  SR 710 will be restored to its original condition.

Phase V

Traffic will be shifted towards the median area as the road and bridge improvement on I-95 are constructed.

Phase VI

Traffic will be shifted towards the outside as the construction of the road in the median is completed.  Roadwork on 45th Street and Blue Heron Blvd. will be completed in this phase.
