Project Limits

I-95 from 10th Avenue North to south of Southern Boulevard (SR 80)

Purpose

Improve roadway capacity, safety and efficiency.

Scope of Work

FDOT is widening I-95 from six lanes to ten lanes along this section, a length of approximately 2.94 miles. The work includes widening the existing bridges over 17th Avenue North, Forest Hill Boulevard, and Summit Boulevard, replacing the existing bridge over the C-51 Canal, and reconstructing the mainline ramps.  The project will also include drainage improvements, sound barrier walls, retaining walls, signing and pavement marking, lighting, landscaping, irrigation, and communications elements.

Construction Timeline

Begin Construction: January 2004
End Construction: March 2008

Maintenance of Traffic

Lane closures on I-95 will only occur at night when traffic volumes are lighter.  Three thru lanes will be maintained at all times from 5:30 am to 8:00 pm.  There will also be ramp closures as follows:

Southbound I-95 to 10th Avenue North off-ramp – 28 days
10th Avenue North to Northbound I-95 on-ramp – 35 days
Northbound I-95 to Forest Hill Boulevard off-ramp – 9 days

Advance warning of ramp work will be provided.

Construction Phasing

Phase I

10th Avenue North to North of Forest Hill Boulevard.  Noise walls along the east sides of I-95 will be constructed in this phase.  Traffic will be shifted towards the outside of the existing roadway to accommodate the temporary road construction in the median, and inside widening of the 17th Avenue North, C-51 Canal, and Forest Hill Boulevard bridges.

Phase II

10th Avenue North to North of Forest Hill Boulevard.  Southbound traffic will be diverted to the newly constructed median area as the road and bridge improvements on the southbound side of I-95 are constructed.

Phase III

10th Avenue North to North of Forest Hill Boulevard.  Northbound traffic will be diverted to the previously constructed median, and the southbound traffic will be on the newly constructed southbound roadway area as the road and bridge improvements on the northbound side of I-95 are constructed.

Phase IV

10th Avenue North to North of Forest Hill Boulevard.  Complete the construction of the road in the median as northbound and southbound traffic use the newly constructed roadway.

North of Forest Hill Boulevard to South of Southern Boulevard.  Median bridge widening will be done at the Summit Boulevard bridge.

Phase V

North of Forest Hill Boulevard to South of Southern Boulevard.  Complete the construction of the road in the median as northbound and southbound traffic is shifted towards the outside of the existing roadway.

Phase VI

Traffic will be shifted to its final configuration as the roadway is resurfaced.
