On June 1st, 2006, the I-95 Mobility 2000 project office completed the second of eight (8) projects along the Palm Beach County I-95 corridor. This project covered over three (3) miles of I-95 roadway, beginning south of Gateway Boulevard and ending south of 6th Avenue South.

The $34.3 million project, which began in December of 2002, widened I-95 from six (6) lanes to ten (10) lanes along this section. The work included widening the existing bridge over 12th Avenue South, demolition of the pedestrian overpass north of Lantana Road, and modification of the mainline ramps. The project also included drainage improvements, sound barrier walls, retaining walls, signing and pavement marking, lighting, landscaping, irrigation and communications elements.

Hubbard Construction Company was awarded the contract, and given an original contract time of 1300 calendar days for completion. Due to the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, and in addition to other inclement weather, the project was extended by 26 days. However, the contractor completed the project within 1278 contract days. The project also finished under budget by over $1 million.

INTERESTING FACTS

During this project over 4,500,000 feet of milled asphalt and 112 million pounds of asphalt were used.

More than 380,000 linear feet of new striping was placed -That's more than the length of 1,055 football fields!

Over 585,258 pounds of steel were used to build the bridge over 12th Avenue South.Over 34.8 miles of temporary barrier wall were used during construction.

Over 252,577 square yards of limerock base were used on this project, the equivalent of 4.5 football fields.>>>
